Why Can't I Lose Weight
Why
can’t I lose weight is one of the most frequently asked questions I get asked by
anyone struggling to shed a few pounds. All too often that person looks to external influences or
reasons out of their control as the answer to their problem.
But
it’s very rare indeed that a person can’t lose weight
because of anything outside of their control. There are some medications that
will make the job much harder which have side
effects of weight gain such as steroids or some types of contraceptive pill. Also a number of
medical conditions can make it hard to lose weight such as an under active thyroid or polycystic
ovaries to name just a couple.
But unfortunately the sad truth is that
the real answer to ‘why can’t I lose weight’ usually lies with the person themselves.
Mostly this is because they simply aren’t doing the right things.
Many people try to lose weight by dieting, or
doing more activity or going to the gym.
But very
rarely do they combine all of these things together at the same time.
It’s actually very easy to lose weight if you
do just a bit of each of these things altogether.
For
example you could reduce the amount of alcohol you drink, cut down on desserts or only eat out or
have take away’s once a week.
At
the same time as making these small changes to your diet, you could start walking more. Walking to
work or going out at lunch time for a quick stroll... anything which helps you to get more active
and burn off more calories.
Lastly you could join a gym or start doing
some workouts at home. Training your muscles will lead to a boost in your metabolic rate, which
means you’ll burn more calories even at rest. Doing this a couple of times a week will
really kick start your metabolism.
Combining all these things together at the
same time is the real answer.
One
final point, if your diet contains regular helpings of sugar throughout the day, you can exercise
until you’re blue in the face and you’ll never burn any fat, you physically can’t. Because
every time you eat high sugar foods, you’re body produces insulin to take the sugars from the
blood.
When insulin is produced, the release of the
hormone Glucagon is stopped. Glucagon is responsible for taking fat from our body to use as energy.
So when you eat sugar, you physically can't burn
fat.
So
the next time you’re wondering ‘why can’t I lose weight,’ the answer is probably
much simpler than you think. Look at the things you’re doing. Do some research, learn what you need
to do, don’t simply be guided by things you’ve heard from other people or the messages that diet
companies put out. Learn the ‘facts’ and you’ll go on to succeed.
